The ever-helpful Psychopharmacology Institute has put together a presentation comparing and contrasting Venlafaxine (Effexor) and Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq). Dr. Flavio Guzman outlines the presentation: Each video is followed by a transcript, so whether you learn better from hearing or from reading, you're covered. The first video is "Mechanism of Action and Pharmacodynamics" - what they do in the body. The second is "Indications" - what they are used for (approved and off-label.) The third is "Pharmacokinetics" -how they each work. The fourth is "Adverse Effects – Tolerability" - problems associated with these medications. The fifth is "Dosing" - which is obviously more useful to the prescribing physician or the pharmacist, but can be good to know if you're a patient.
