WAY too often lately, I see everyone from newscasters to talk-show hosts to authors casually dropping the A-bomb- yes, you guessed it, ADHD.
What I see in consequence of this is a marginalizing of the very real issue that is ADHD. This results in making me madder than a cat trapped in a cold shower.
Unfortunately, the next question I have to ask myself- in the midst of being extremely PO'd- is, "What do I do about it?"
What I have begun doing is emailing the offender and their station a quick and dirty fact sheet about ADHD and challenging them to wake the "f" up to the fact that you don't get to play favorites with mental health issues that they approve of. Troops come home with PTSD so PTSD is okay. Today.
Cutesy little references to something that kicks our collective a$$ simply serve to marginalize something that is real and carries serious consequences. NOT cool!
Another side? I was recently asked about my pre-existing conditions. I listed severe COPD, ADHD, bad hypertension, and situational depression. They were only willing to manage to the COPD, depression, and hypertension in that order. What no one would even consider was that the depression has a clear etiology, the hypertension will kill me before the COPD does and that ADHD will determine how I manage the other three. Thank you, obtuse medical profession!

I guess I don't watch much tv as I haven't noticed this trend myself. Bravo to you for taking the step to try to educate these media morons. Don't even get me started about dimwitted doctors.
