It is our intention for this to be a genuinely supportive community. We will be focused on reality-based views on the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, but accepting of different people's experiences. For this reason, we have set up specific discussion areas, and staff will move threads if they are not appropriate to that area. Posts that do not relate to the original topic will also be moved or deleted.
1. Disagree politely. It's possible. Give it a try, it's good for you. Insulting, flaming, threatening, or deliberately provoking another member to anger will not be tolerated. We'll be understanding if things get a little heated on occasion, but a pattern of this behavior tells us that you are not a good fit for this community.
2. Another aspect of respect is staying on topic. If someone starts a thread, reply to the topic that is presented. Sometimes conversations wander, but deliberately changing the subject is rude. Start a thread of your own if you want to discuss something different.
3. Be aware that personal experiences have value - as personal experiences. Do not value your personal experience over scientific evidence. Do not value your personal experience over someone else's personal experience. Do not be rude to people who are relating their personal experiences. (Disagree politely if you must disagree.)
4. Pay attention to what moderators tell you. We're not going to be ruling with an iron fist, but if you ignore moderator instructions or warnings, we will take away your posting privileges.
5. If a post is removed or a thread closed because of a specific topic that moderators decide is not welcome on the forums, do not start a new thread or insert the topic into a different thread. Saying the same thing over and over doesn't make it true, and is one of the things we will not tolerate.
6. No commercial advertising or spam is permitted. This community does not exist to fill your pockets. Members who contribute regularly may be, at moderator discretion, allowed to include links to commercial sites that are deemed relevant and not opportunistic. If you're here just to sell something, you will be banned.
6A. If you are a site owner and link to your site in your signature or in your posts, please share the love and reciprocate. Put us in your blogroll or mention us on your site so we can grow the community.
7. Illegal activity is not accepted or condoned. Discussion of sharing or trading medications is not permitted, and will get you banned. We understand that there are many cases in which you have used illegal substances or taken someone else's prescription medication. In the context of a larger discussion, moderators may allow these references to stand, except when it appears that these actions are being encouraged or condoned. Because of the ongoing changes in the legal status of marijuana, decisions about what to do about discussions of marijuana use will be considered on a case by case basis.
8. Posts about suicide will not be allowed to stand. While we want to be supportive and helpful, feedback on a forum is not timely enough to be of use. Please call a suicide hotline. Please. Our concern about this extends to Members and Guests who might be triggered by reading these posts, as well. We don't want anyone to be hurt, and this is our best course of action to avoid this.
