Some of us are starting fresh with different usernames, while some we'll recognize from elsewhere. Every one of you makes me happy each time I see a new registration.
"Faylen" actually predates several of my other names, and goes back to my college days playing Dungeons and Dragons. Faylen was a Chaotic Good Cleric with incredibly good luck when it came to throwing a D20. That's sort of like me in real life.
I was diagnosed with ADHD back when it was MBD, in the early 1960s. I coped with it, more or less, for most of my life until clinical depression forced me into seeking treatment - at which point I discovered that my original condition didn't disappear during puberty, as I'd been told. What a relief.
Things improved for quite some time with medications and therapy until they didn't - and it wasn't until 2012 that I found out that the problem was a tumor in my skull messing up my brain. Got that taken care of, now I have some new issues, but this means I have a whole world of experience with "diagnosis and treatment"!!!
Right now, this community contains the spaces carter, felicity, and I thought we needed. But it's yours, too, so tell us what you like, what else you want to see. And tell us a little about yourself for the folks we hope will be joining us later as time goes on.

Here I is because I belong with the rest of y'all.
Over 50, widowed, diagnosed as a kid, still crazy after all these years.
Some of you will recognize my brand of silliness form other places I have been. Promise to never tell anyone, kay?
Thanks for building this little slice of heaven I plan to refer to as home.
(((hugs)))

Hi, guys!
I know most of you from another forum, but just in case new members do come to this place, here's another short introduction of myself:
I'm 27, Romanian, female and I was formally diagnosed with anxiety 5 months ago and with ADHD 2 months ago. I haven't gotten medicated yet, but hope to be as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I'm learning to accept myself and to learn proper coping strategies.
I've always been: -obsessive day-dreamer, -procrastinator, very moody, -unsociable most of the times, -used to have high social anxiety, now it has diminished, -suffered from depression as a teenager, but got over it eventually (since there was nothing else to do anyway) -always considered weird, usually left our of groups, bullied very often -I assume I have sensory issues, but wouldn't bother with a diagnosis anyway -messy, sloppy, forgetful, inattentive, clumsy, easily distractible, easily irritable, annoying sometimes
I apologize in advance for all spelling mistakes!

Jane, I think at this point we are in a wonderful discovery phase. We have a place we can be- can try and figure out what we are dealing with and HOW. Your strong voice reminding people to be decent and kind is going to be a strong asset as this place grows and matures.
Owling- I am so glad to see you. It isn't the bright, shiny paths we have traveled that enable us to help one another. It is rather the steaming piles of crap we have had to plow through that gives us both strength and a voice for others.
We have a good core here- and growing!

I encourage anyone who wants to start fresh with a different identity from one they're known by elsewhere to do so. And for our lovely first responders, send me mail if you want a custom title. Just a little token of appreciation.

I'm 46 and very late in my ADHD diagnosis. But in looking back over the years, I've probably been dealing with ADHD (and anxiety) since I was a kid. For one thing, I'm one of those people who never really had much of the H part of ADHD. So I guess it never jumped out at me or my family until I started seeing a psychiatrist who gave me a number of tests that identified it. In retrospect, it seems so obvious now. But I suppose that's the way of these things.
Growing up, and in my professional career, I got very good at compensating, and managed to do pretty well despite my difficulty concentrating. Strangely, I think my anxiety helped with my ADHD, imposing a kind of deadline feeling that motivated me to get things done. Unfortunately, as I got my anxiety under control, that took away one of the main drivers in my life to get things done. I'm a much happier person with the anxiety under control. But I'm now having to deal with the difficulty concentrating and getting things done.
And now, as if my own ADHD isn't enough, my wife and I are finding out that our older daughter (9) probably has ADHD too. Still, for all that I wish my daughter didn't have to deal with this, I'm glad that we've identified her ADHD (and anxiety) early. As I've gone through the diagnosis and treatment over the last few years, I can't help but wish that my parents had caught this when I was a lot younger.

I'm starting fresh here. I could give you a clue but that would be too easy, no? Let's just say I recognize some of you. If you recognize me, I'll give you a hug. If more than one of you recognizes me, then it's a GROUP HUG!!!
